Phil Mayes
Year 8 Tutor, English Teacher (Upper Secondary) and Humanities Teacher
Phil Mayes was educated at the renowned British public school Wellington College before studying history at the University of Leeds. He graduated more years ago than he would care to remember. Since his studies he worked in the city of London for financial services firms before leaving the rat race to set up and run his own business; a chocolate and sweet shop with a coffee and milkshake bar, which he did for 10 years.
Since then he worked as a compliance officer for an insurance company and battled with the delights of GDPR on a daily basis as well as training the staff in data protection. Throughout this time he maintained his passion for education and was a school governor for many years.
Phil is married to Sarah and has one child Florence who joins us at Kings. He loves literature (handy for an English teacher) and the arts and also loves to watch anything sport related on television much to his wife and daughter's annoyance.
